Short Bio
Self-taught mixed media artist on the Mississippi Coast, working with encaustic, texture, and emotional memory. Originally from Russia.
Statement
My work explores the themes of dialogue, emotional resonance, and tactile memory. Through encaustic, texture, and layering, I seek to create a space where viewers reconnect with forgotten fragments of inner experience. I aim to evoke a slow, embodied attention — inviting the viewer to pause, to feel, and to integrate.
As a self-taught artist with a background in social psychology and decorative arts, I am interested in the intersection of sensory process and emotional meaning. Texture for me is not just surface — it is a trace, a scar, a whisper of something once lived.
I work primarily with encaustic, acrylic, and mixed media on wood or canvas, creating quiet, immersive surfaces that speak through depth, imperfection, and time.
Biography
I was born in 1962 in the former USSR, in a city that has since been renamed, and under a family name that was changed during my childhood. I come from a family of professional artists and craftsmen — descendants of a pre-revolutionary dynasty known for ornamental cast iron work.
I have lived in the U.S. for over 12 years, currently based on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I hold a diploma in social psychology and studied decorative and applied arts. For many years, I worked in jewelry and decor, but in recent years I have focused fully on painting and mixed media.
My current practice brings together my backgrounds in psychology and art, exploring inner dialogue, memory, and transformation through texture. I have participated in local art exhibitions and was a regular participant in regional art and craft fairs. I am a member of the International Encaustic Artists.
